When our customer called us this week to get some work done, they told us that they needed some broken concrete  removed and some new concrete poured back.  We gave them a price and they asked us to schedule it.  On this project, our customers basically needed some concrete removed and poured back new again.  We like to call that R & R, remove and replace.  They had a concrete driveway and over time some cracking appeared from what looked like soil erosion.  Concrete Demolition is one of Bernardo Concretes specialties.

We arrived at 9:00 am on  Sunday morning and got the equipment unloaded.  We needed to break out the old concrete so we sawcut out the area to make a clean edge to the area being repaired.  Many concrete contractors don’t do this part of the process because they want to save some money.  After saw cutting the concrete out we used our bobcats to load the broken concrete in to our dump trucks and haul it off to the dump.  After the old concrete is removed we had to stabilize the soil underneath it so that the concrete had a solid surface to support it’s weight.  The way this is achieved is by removing the old wet soil and replacing it with a rock base filler. Once this is in place we where ready to pour in the new concrete and finish it to match the existing concrete surface.

Commerce California Business Park Gets New Sidewalks.

This week Bernardo Concrete, Inc. was hired by a Los Angeles based property management company to get their sidewalks fixed in Commerce, California. Commerce is located in Los Angeles, California and is surrounded by the cities of Vernon, Maywood, and Bell. The concrete sidewalks needed to be repaired because of tree root damage throughout the business park. Tree roots are a major cause of concrete sidewalks cracking and breaking. After agreeing on a price, Bernardo was scheduled to show up and get the concrete sidewalks fixed. Concrete construction is what Bernardo Concrete does best!

It’s important to mention our process because we feel strongly that it’s what sets us apart from most of our competitors. Our process always begins the same way and that’s at our customers convenience. In this case our customers asked us to arrive on a weekend in the early am to avoid working around tenants and pedestrians. We showed up at 6 am and started staging our equipment. Once that was finished, we started to get the area prepped for concrete demolition. Areas that are going to be repaired are saw cut ahead of time.  By doing this, we minimize the ability to see the transition from old concrete to new concrete.  We have in-house concrete cutting equipment and operators, which allows us to stay competitive throughout the project. Our concrete cutter cut all the affected areas out and had the concrete cutting portion done in less than an hour. After the concrete was cut, we brought in our team of bobcat operators who use breakers and buckets to break the concrete down to manageable pieces, scoop them up, and load them into the dump truck that is standing by. Another hour and a half later the old broken concrete was completely removed and on its way to the dump. Concrete breaking and hauling is just one more service that Bernardo Concrete offers at a competitive price. The demo’d areas were now ready to be formed and poured with new concrete. All in all the project took just one day and came out great.
