For the past four months Bernardo Concrete Inc. has been working, on and off, in Whittier, California constructing all concrete aspects of the new Molokan Church on Pioneer Boulevard.� This project consisted of the buildings concrete slab footings, concrete ADA� ramp, concrete slab parking lot, concrete walkways, and even colored and design oriented concrete walkway in front of the church.

Stamped Colored Concrete Slab

For those of you that find regular plain gray concrete to be boring, we do all forms of colored and texture designed concrete as well.� At this particular job location, we formed and stamped a terra cotta colored concrete walkway at the entrance to the church.� This service is perfect for those remodeling driveways, patios, backyards etc.; to look artistic.� As you can see from the photographs the stamp we used for this concrete slab was a rock imitating pattern.� This is a way to show a more diverse form of a simple colored concrete slab.

We at Bernardo are willing to take on any challenge that may come our way; and with this particular concrete construction project we knew it was definitely something that only experienced concrete construction contractors would be able to take on. We were hired by a property manager in Los Angeles, specifically the El Segundo area. El Segundo is close by Inglewood, Gardena, Redondo Beach, and Culver City. We were asked to remove and replace a concrete slab inside of an industrial building.� However it wasn’t the average 4″ concrete slab any concrete construction contractor is used to, but a 21 by 24 6″ slab of concrete. We actually had to replace it with 4ft of concrete which meant that we had to haul away approximately 70 yards of dirt in that one area.

Establishing the Concrete Construction Project

This particular concrete construction project was something we weren’t used to normally doing but with our knowledge and experience we were able to get this concrete slab removed and replaced to our customers request. The beginning for this job was for us to saw cut and demo out the existing concrete slab all of which we have experienced and done hundreds of times before with other concrete construction projects. Once the 4″ concrete slab was removed we had to use our bobcats to excavate 4ft down and haul away approximately 70 yards of dirt.

The reason we had to create a slab 4 ft thick for this concrete construction project was due to the heavy machinery that was going to be on the surface of the concrete. The only way a concrete slab would be able to withstand the heavy machinery would be to input a thick amount of concrete. After the area was graded we placed 3″ of steel rebar 12″ on center. The 3″ of steel rebar was needed for a slab that thick. Since it was such a thick slab of concrete the finish for the project took a lot longer than it normally would. Once all the concrete was poured we spent several hours on the concrete construction job just flouting the concrete and we continually checked the elevation and height of the concrete slab to make sure it would be able to withstand the weight of the machinery. After many long hours and hard work we completed the concrete construction project with great success. Our customers were definitely left satisfied with the work we accomplished for them.

Concrete Construction Curb & Flow line Replacement

Just last week B.C.I was hired by a property manager in Santa Ana for a concrete construction project where we had to remove existing parking stalls along with some landscape area to replace with new curb, flow line, and eventually additional parking stalls. The overcrowded apartment complex parking lot increased by 15 stalls after we had removed areas of landscape and restructured old parking stalls. Some concrete construction projects require not only that we remove existing work but may also require us to remove landscape or anything else that will only benefit the work itself. Constructing the Concrete Construction Project

This was a two day concrete construction job for the crew at Bernardo. We knew we had to work promptly because it was an apartment complex and we knew we couldn’t slow down the residents who lived there. We at B.C.I also make sure to plan ahead and before we take on any project we look over the scope of work and figure out a plan as to what exactly needs to be done and the average amount of time we are going to need on the job. The first day on the concrete construction job consisted of mostly demo work. We began by saw-cutting out the existing curb and parking stalls in multiple areas.� After we saw-cut, we demoed out the existing concrete curb and parking stalls. We also had to demo landscape in some areas in order for the additional parking stalls to be added. After we demoed out all the areas we graded the remaining dirt with our bobcats. Once the areas were demoed and completely leveled out we were able to set up the perimeter for the new concrete curbs, flow line, and the foundation for the asphalt parking stalls.

Day Two on The Concrete Construction Job

The second day on the concrete construction job consisted of pouring and forming the 12″ concrete curb and concrete flow line in certain areas. The process in establishing a concrete curb and flow line must be very precise with the measurements and elevation of the flow line. Once the concrete was poured within the existing perimeter for the concrete curb and flow line we started to form the flow line. The elevation of the flow line must have equal measurements on each side of the slope in order for it to function with whatever it may come in contact with. After the concrete flow line was established we formed the concrete curb. We had to used certain tools to form the curb at a 90 degree angle. Since the concrete curb and flow line was formed and established the concrete construction part of the job was done. With all the concrete construction work B.C.I specializes in, it’s no wonder they got a request to do some stone work along with a concrete slab for some residents in Anaheim. Anaheim is a busy city that is close to Fullerton, Orange, Garden Grove and Buena Park. The project not only included a sand based slab with stone pieces in it, but also a separate concrete slab. B.C.I is one the concrete construction contractors to consider when it comes to taking on multiple scopes of work, because we are always up for a challenge. Since B.C.I had to do more that just simply input a concrete slab for this concrete construction project we made sure we were organized and aware of what had to be done first in order for this concrete construction job to be complete in a timely matter. The first part of the job started with a complete demo of the existing area. Once that was done we set up the perimeter for both separate slabs.The first slab we started to form was the sand based slab. In order to form this slab we used sand to fill the area. The thickness for both the sand based slab and the concrete slab was 4″ thick. Once the sand was poured we used a screed to smooth or level it out just as it would have been done to the concrete. Now that the sand based slab was established, we were able to place the stone pieces directly on the surface of the sand. After all the stone was placed and leveled with the sand we continued with the concrete slab.

The basics for that concrete slab were very simple.� As a� contractor, we know exactly what needs to be done to establish a concrete slab. Since the concrete slab was demoed and graded already all that needed to be done was pour the concrete. After the concrete was poured we formed it and made sure it was leveled at 4″ thick. Now that the concrete slab and the sand based slab we poured and formed all that we had to do was create a clean finish for the concrete construction project so that it satisfied our customer. To our assurance our customer was nothing less than happy with the work we completed for them.

B.C.I was hired by a general contractor to perform a concrete construction project for a new retail center in Los Angeles. Los Angeles is near Carson, Gardena, Compton and Rancho Dominguez. This concrete construction job required us to construct footings, grade beams, slab on grade, and all the on site curb and gutter also sidewalks, trash slabs. Bernardo also removed and replaced the city sidewalk and driveway approaches per city standards. Our scope of work was taken from a complete set of blue prints and proceeded from the estimating phase to the pour and finish for this concrete construction project. The customer was very confident in our ability to handle this scope of work.

We have constructed building foundations all through out Southern California for this specific contractor and many other developers and property owners alike. Bernardo Concrete understands how scheduling and coordination with other sub contractors such as plumbers, electricians, and carpenters is very important because once the building foundation has been poured no changes can be made. We take pride in ourselves in over seeing all these phases prior to the concrete being placed.

Concrete Construction Basics

Once we arrived at the job site we first graded the area for the building slab and dug all necessary footings. Then we set the perimeter forms for the building foundation. The next step for the�concrete construction project was to place the 10 mil plastic as a vapor barrier. Once that was done we covered it with 2″ of fill sand to make the final grade. A building slab is generally 6″ thick. After that we placed the rebar 24″ on center and then we checked to make sure all plumbing and anchor bolts were in place and ready for the inspection. Once that was all completed the city building inspector was called to verify that everything we had done is per the plans and drawings for this particular concrete construction project. He then gave us approval and we proceeded to place and finish the concrete for our new building slab. This past week Bernardo Concrete was asked to do some concrete construction work at an industrial building in Los Angeles. Los Angeles is surrounded by the following cities Vernon, Commerce, Eagle Rock, and Burbank. The customer requested� some work on a concrete slab. The concrete slab had to be removed and replaced and they knew Bernardo Concrete was the concrete contractor they could count on to get the job done.

The Beginning of the Concrete Construction Slab

The entire process in this concrete construction job required more than just simply removing the concrete. When we first arrived at the job site we unloaded all our tools and bobcats along with marking off the area to ensure the safety of others. Once the area was marked off we began to saw-cut and demo the concrete. We then took our bobcats and broke the existing concrete slab. After this we picked up the concrete pieces with our bobcat and loaded it onto our dump truck where it is then hauled away to the nearest dump.

Completing the Concrete Construction Project

Now that the old concrete slab had been removed we were able to start the process of replacing the new concrete slab. The first step in this process was to set the rebar in order to support the concrete so that it lasts longer. Once the rebar was all set we began pouring the new concrete. We also had to make sure we formed the concrete so that it was even in every part of the new slab.� We were able to get this concrete construction project done in just one day and our customer was very satisfied with the work we completed for them.

This past week Bernardo Concrete was hired to do some concrete construction work for a retail center. This particular retail center is in the city of Ontario, CA.
