Bernardo recently took on a concrete removal project at the Huntington Oaks Village, a center for senior citizens. In addition to the one area of concrete driveway we removed and replaced there we were also asked to remove and replace driveway in another area along with a concrete flow line. The property managers at the Huntington Oaks Village hired for this concrete removal job because they knew we were capable of getting the project done on time and to what they had requested. When it comes to a two part job as this concrete removal project turned out to be we always make sure we plan out how exactly we are going to take on a project.

Completing this Concrete Removal Project

Since we knew this concrete removal project was in such a large area; we turned it into two parts. The first part consisted mostly of the concrete driveway being removed and replace; which was discussed in the previous blog. For the second part of the job we removed the rest of the existing concrete driveway and a small area of concrete flow line. We made this  a two part project so that it wouldn’t interfere with the vehicles that were going in and out of the community center. Because we had already done a large portion of this project there wasn’t a huge area left to remove and replace.

We started out the concrete removal job  by removing the existing driveway and flow line. Once this was done we hauled away the concrete to the nearest dump. We then graded the area for a leveled surface. After the area was all graded we laid out the rebar and started to pour the concrete for the concrete driveway first. Once the driveway was poured and formed we started to pour the flow line. The flow line had to be elevated at a specific slope in order for it to function with whatever it may come in contact with. Now that the concrete driveway and flow line were replaced our job was completed. The property managers at the Huntington Oaks Village were satisfied with the work we completed for them.

Just this week B.C.I was hired as a concrete removal contractor to perform some work on a concrete curb and redo an asphalt flow line in Costa Mesa. Costa Mesa is a popular city near Newport Beach, Santa Ana, Irvine, and Fountain Valley. Part of the process for this job required us to remove the existing asphalt flow line and replace it with a concrete flow line. A concrete flow line lasts a lot longer than an asphalt flow line. We also replaced the existing concrete curb because it had been cracked and damaged over time. The entire concrete removal project only took B.C.I two days to complete. Starting The Concrete Removal Project

The first day of this concrete removal job started out with saw cutting the area that had to be demoed and removed. Next we began to demo the existing asphalt flow line and concrete curb. After the concrete and asphalt was removed it was hauled away to the nearest dump where it can be recycled. Once the area was clear we set up and formed the perimeter for the concrete flow line with 2 by 4′s and steaks. Along with the formation of the flow line we placed the rebar; which supports the concrete flow line.

The Ending to the Concrete Removal Job

Now that the concrete removal part of the job was done we were able to construct the new concrete flow line and curb. Once the concrete arrived we immediately started to pour and form the concrete for the flow line. With a concrete flow line it is very important to get the elevation on both sides correct in order for it to actually be able to flow with whatever it may come in contact with. We also poured the concrete for the curb and we formed it by using certain tools to form the curb within the perimeter. Due to the hot weather we were currently having we were able to complete the job just 2 hours after the concrete was poured and returned three days later to complete the asphalt patch back. Since the concrete dried so fast it made our job a lot easier and we ended by removing all the forms barricades and cleaning up the area.

One of the construction procedures we specializes in is concrete removal. A property manager in Long Beach did not hesitate to call us to schedule some work because when it comes to concrete removal contractors they knew we were the right contractor for this particular project. The morning started early for this concrete removal job. The first thing we had to do was remove the existing concrete slab. Then we used our bobcats to break the concrete into pieces. Once this was done we used both bobcats to pick up the concrete pieces and load them into our dump truck to be delivered to a dump nearby. Now that the process for removing the concrete was done we were able to start pouring and forming the concrete.

After the Concrete Removal Process

In order to finish the project after the concrete removal process was done we started with grading the dirt where the existing slab was. After that was done we placed the rebar 24″ on center to prevent the concrete from cracking. Now that the rebar was placed we started to pour the concrete. We used a 2 by 4 to spread out the concrete within the perimeter. Once the concrete was spread out within the perimeter we leveled it out with a screed. Before the concrete dried we swept the surface of the concrete for a more cleaner look. The property managers for this industrial building were very pleased to see the outcome for this concrete removal project.

Once the rebar was set we were able to pour the concrete while forming it to make sure it was even all throughout the parking lot. After the concrete was poured and formed we finished it up with soft-cut joints.At this point all that was left was for us to repaint the parking lot lines. The property owners were definitely pleased with the concrete removal and newly poured parking lot we had accomplished for them.

This past week Bernardo Concrete was asked to do some concrete removal work on a driveway approach and remodel the entire garage foundation for some residents in Westminster, CA. When we first arrived we unloaded all of the tools and bobcats needed in order to do the job. Once everything was unloaded we started to mark off and saw-cut the edges of the driveway. In order to form the new driveway approach we had to smooth out the dirt and make sure it was even. We then poured the new concrete for the foundation of the garage and formed the driveway approach.

The first step in the concrete removal process is to measure and mark off the desired area to be removed in order to determine what we are going to saw cut. Next we unload the bobcats and put on the proper concrete removal attachments.  With the two bobcats, one specifically punctures the concrete while the other one gathers the concrete pieces into the bucket. The second bobcat then inputs the concrete pieces from the bucket into the dump truck. This process repeats several times until all the concrete pieces are completely removed from the area. Finally, the concrete that was removed can be hauled away to local dumps in the area.
