Our customer at Cavanaugh Machine Works hired us at B.C.I to repair a concrete slab in their machine operating warehouse. Cavanaugh Machine Works provides ship repairs along with other services. They needed to replace a 9′x12′ area of 6″ concrete slab in order to operate a piece of machinery on the surface. Working to Complete This Concrete Repair

First we saw cut and demo out the area that was to be repaired in order for this concrete slab to be able to withstand the heavy machinery operating on it. After the slab was removed we used our bobcats to dig approximately 21″ for the new 27″ slab.secure we were able to pour the cement for the new concrete slab. For this type of slab we also had to input expansion paper along the edge of the new concrete slab where it meets with the existing concrete slab. This is also used to support a concrete slab. Expansion paper looks ofter similar to a piece of plywood but is actually made up of  fiber and asphalt compounds.

We were recently hired to reconstruct a block wall in Costa Mesa. The commercial property owner hired us for concrete repairs on several block walls. After fifty years of continuous hits and damage to the block walls it was time for them to be replaced. Working to Complete the Concrete Repairs

Since there had been a large amount of damage done to the block walls, the simplest way to complete all the concrete repairs was to knock it down completely. We established all new block walls in several areas from the ground up. Once we removed the existing block wall we dug the new footings and placed new rebar about 32 inches apart to help support the block wall. We had to construct a 6 ft high wall using tan precision block and cement. The rebar was placed vertically and horizontally within the walls and grouted for structural strength to help prevent any damage. A round cap was placed at the top of the walls to complete the project. All new walls were built to the city standards of Costa Mesa. The cleanup back filling and grading was all done by us at Bernardo to leave the project as least impacted to the customer.

In Paramount, California Bernardo Concrete repairs and reconstructs the curb and gutter on the side of the street to help Paramount become a safer environment. Seawind Cove, a Huntington Beach, Ca. H.O.A., needed some concrete repair work done on their damaged concrete steps.  They contacted us and we provided them with a proposal.  They liked our price so we scheduled the job for Nov 25.

Bernardo Concrete, Inc. arrived at 8:00am and cautioned off the area.  Once those areas were safely delineated, we proceeded to saw cut the damaged concrete.  Next, BCI broke the damaged concrete out by hand, due to limited access for our Bobcats.  BCI proceeded to remove tree roots that were the cause of the damaged concrete. The crew formed the new steps and landing, before the concrete truck arrived.  BCI workmen then had to  hand wheel barrow the concrete in because of the limited access at the job site.  Then, using hand tools, we finished the steps and landing to a nice broom finish.  Lastly, BCI’s crew cleaned up the job site and the job was complete by 3:00pm.  BCI offers many concrete construction related services and this daily blog tells of just some of the many many projects we complete throughout the Southern California area.

Sunnyside Elementary School needed to install new playground equipment.  The process required 2 concrete slabs measuring 120’ x 37’ each.  Bernardo Concrete Repair Company arrived on time at 8 am and started pulling lines, setting grades, pounding steaks, and setting screed pins for proper elevations.  By 9 am Bernardo Concrete Inc. was pouring concrete, had started rodding, and floating the fresh concrete until they got a level surface.  Next, we started fresnoing the concrete with a trowel to achieve a fine finish.  Finally, the process is completed by applying a light broom finish with a horse hair broom.  This allows the concrete to have a clean, non-skid surface per the customer’s request.
