This past week Bernardo Concrete was hired to do some concrete construction work for a retail center. This particular retail center� is in the city of Ontario, CA. When we first arrived at the job site we unloaded all of our construction tools and tractors. Once everything was unloaded we began marking off the entire area that needed to be removed. Removal and Replacement of Concrete Slab in Redondo Beach, CA

Bernardo Concrete was asked to do some concrete construction work for a property manager on an industrial building in Redondo Beach, CA. Redondo Beach is in and around Hermosa Beach, Torrance, Gardena, and Hawthorne. The removal and replacement of the concrete slab required a little more work than just demolition and replacement. However, this was a job Bernardo Concrete knew they had the skills and technical know how for and were able to get the job done successfully and on time.

Working to Complete This Concrete Slab

We were first asked to re construct a small area for an industrial building, but we then discovered that there was a change that needed to be made. The small concrete slab now turned into a larger area of concrete to be removed. The beginning process for this project dealt with saw cutting out the area that needed to be removed. Once the previous concrete slab was removed, the next step was to excavate an extra� foot of dirt and then the placement of the rebar was done. The rebar was tied and dowels were placed around the perimeter of the slab for a metal table. After the rebar was fully intact our concrete slab was now ready for inspection. The customer requested 4 extra� footings to be done. This specific project required a little more work than usual but we still managed to get the job done right. Bernardo Concrete was asked by the Garden Grove School District to repair and construct handicap ramps at Patton Elementary School. Constructing the Handicap Ramps

We arrived at the job site and began to unload all of the equipment. Once everything was unloaded we began to mark off the area keeping in mind the safety of others. The first thing we had to do was saw cut out the area in order to make a clean edge for the placement of the handicap ramps. Next we picked up and hauled away all the pieces of broken concrete with our unique bobcats and dump trucks. Once the area was completely cleared we started to pour and form the handicap ramp. Along with the concrete handicap ramps truncated domes and12 inch grooves are inserted especially for the visually impaired. We arrived at the job site with all the proper equipment needed to get the project done. The first step in the concrete removal process is to measure and mark off the desired area to be removed in order to determine what we are going to saw cut. Next we unload the bobcats and put on the proper concrete removal attachments.� With the two bobcats, one specifically punctures the concrete while the other one gathers the concrete pieces into the bucket. The second bobcat then inputs the concrete pieces from the bucket into the dump truck. This process repeats several times until all the concrete pieces are completely removed from the area. Finally, the concrete that was removed can be hauled away to local dumps in the area.

Signal Hill Concrete Flow Line Repair

Bernardo Concrete Gets the Flow Line Fixed

This week Bernardo was contracted to get some flow lines removed and replaced in a business park in Signal Hills� California. Signal Hill is located in Los Angeles California with the surrounding cities of Carson, Cypress, Long Beach, and Hawaiian Gardens. Though this was a larger project concrete construction than we would normally try to complete in 1 day the property management company we where working with asked us to try to get in done quickly so we did.� We arrived early and got the project done and it went well with no problems. Gotta love that!!!

Concrete Demolition First

The first thing we did when we arrived was to block the work area so no one could wander in to the work area and cause harm to themselves or the guys working. Once everything was secured we unloaded the bobcats and demo’d out the concrete flow line and hauled the old concrete off to the dump site.� The concrete demolition portion of the project is crucial. By doing the removals neatly and quickly we where able to save a ton of time. The only things that needed to be done once the concrete was removed was forms placed and the concrete poured. It should be noted on this project that the concrete on site was not defective. The asphalt around it had issues and the concrete needed to be extended out to a larger flow line in order to hold more runoff water in the wet season.

Form and Pour the New Concrete Flow Lines

Once the concrete was removed Bernardo’s men quickly staked in the new forms and started pouring the concrete for the new concrete flow lines. Bernardo had worked in this business park before installing handicap ramps and curb and gutters so they knew what to expect on the property. The concrete pour part of the process took several hours but the mud was poured and the troweling began. Bernardo uses a number of different trowels including a fresno trowel and a funny trowel to get the desired finish we required.

All in all the concrete construction project went very well.� We finished floating and forming the concrete and we cleaned up the entire area. All that was left to do was to make sure that all was secured and load up the trucks. Another perfect project completed by Bernardo Concrete Inc.
