The next step was to saw cut out the concrete slab that needed to be removed. After the concrete was saw cut out we used our bobcats to remove the concrete in order to replace it. About this Demolition / Construction Project

When our customer called us this week to get some work done, they told us that they needed some broken concrete  removed and some new concrete poured back.  We gave them a price and they asked us to schedule it.  On this project, our customers basically needed some concrete removed and poured back new again.  We like to call that R & R, remove and replace.  They had a concrete driveway and over time some cracking appeared from what looked like soil erosion.  Concrete Demolition is one of Bernardo Concretes specialties.

We arrived at 9:00 am on  Sunday morning and got the equipment unloaded.  We needed to break out the old concrete so we sawcut out the area to make a clean edge to the area being repaired.  Many concrete contractors don’t do this part of the process because they want to save some money.  After saw cutting the concrete out we used our bobcats to load the broken concrete in to our dump trucks and haul it off to the dump.  After the old concrete is removed we had to stabilize the soil underneath it so that the concrete had a solid surface to support it’s weight.  The way this is achieved is by removing the old wet soil and replacing it with a rock base filler. Once this is in place we where ready to pour in the new concrete and finish it to match the existing concrete surface.

This week Bernardo Concrete, Inc. was hired by a Los Angeles based property management company to get their sidewalks fixed in Commerce, California. Commerce is located in Los Angeles, California and is surrounded by the cities of Vernon, Maywood, and Bell. The concrete sidewalks needed to be repaired because of tree root damage throughout the business park. Tree roots are a major cause of concrete sidewalks cracking and breaking. It’s important to mention our process because we feel strongly that it’s what sets us apart from most of our competitors. Our process always begins the same way and that’s at our customers convenience. In this case our customers asked us to arrive on a weekend in the early am to avoid working around tenants and pedestrians. We showed up at 6 am and started staging our equipment. Once that was finished, we started to get the area prepped for concrete demolition. Areas that are going to be repaired are saw cut ahead of time.  By doing this, we minimize the ability to see the transition from old concrete to new concrete.  We have in-house concrete cutting equipment and operators, which allows us to stay competitive throughout the project. Our concrete cutter cut all the affected areas out and had the concrete cutting portion done in less than an hour. After the concrete was cut, we brought in our team of bobcat operators who use breakers and buckets to break the concrete down to manageable pieces, scoop them up, and load them into the dump truck that is standing by. Another hour and a half later the old broken concrete was completely removed and on its way to the dump. Concrete breaking and hauling is just one more service that Bernardo Concrete offers at a competitive price. The demo’d areas were now ready to be formed and poured with new concrete. All in all the project took just one day and came out great.

Seal Beach Property Manager Needs New Concrete Sidewalks

We arrived at the concrete sidewalk repair project in the morning at about 8:00 am.  Our customer was there to meet us and ask a few simple questions.  We used our blowers to clean off the area where the concrete demolition and construction would be performed.  We quickly tore out the old concrete sidewalks and re bar and hauled it away to a local landfill. Once the area was cleaned out, we constructed some pedestrian ramps for customers to use to access the stores. We formed out the sidewalks and the concrete material trucks arrived on the scene. 2 hours later all the concrete was pumped into the formed out areas and was quickly finished.

About the Concrete Repair Project

This particular job may seem small and simple, but Bernardo Concrete, Inc. has the experience to know how to avoid the mistakes other concrete contractors may make.  Even when the scope of work seems small, BCI gives the same consideration and attention to detail that they would a larger job.  In this case, BCI was contracted to remove paving stones that were just outside a doorway.  The paving stones were attractive, but the rains had proven that they weren’t providing adequate drainage and the dirt between the paving stones was making mud puddles.  Because this was a small area very close to the building, BCI actually had to be very careful and precise.  The paving stones were removed and the area was taken down 4 inches in preparation for a new concrete walkway.  Much of the work was done by hand with wheelbarrows and special care was taken to tape plastic around the work area to protect the building.  BCI was also very careful to lay down plywood, so as not to track mud throughout the rest of the property.  BCI is a very conscientious concrete contractor and they leave the job site as neat, if not neater, than when they arrived.

Garden Grove MHP Gets Flow Line Repair

Concrete Planter Made Larger for Existing Trees

This particular concrete construction project took place in a business park in the city of Diamond Bar, California.  Diamond Bar is located in Los Angeles County with the city of Pomona to the east and the city of Walnut to the west.  The city of Chino Hills is to the south with San Dimas to the north.  The job was performed on the weekend while the parking lot was empty to give the least chance of disruption to the employees and to create the safest working environment for Bernardo Concrete, Inc.

Trees Offer an Aesthetic Value

This business park benefits from the beautiful landscaping and numerous trees.  In Southern California, trees are not only for aesthetic purposes, but also needed for shade.  The issue in this park was that some of the tree roots were lifting and breaking the concrete curbs and asphalt that surrounded the trees.  Unsafe conditions in a parking lot, such as the one created by these tree roots, are a nightmare for the parking lot owner.  It is their responsibility to keep the area safe for employees and customers.  A solution was found that saved the trees and also removed the tripping hazard.

Laguna Niguel Park Gets New Sidewalks Installed

Today, Bernardo Concrete, Inc. worked in Bear Brand Park located in the city of Laguna Niguel.  This is a beautiful city located off the 5 freeway & Crown Valley.  Laguna Niguel is surrounded by some of the nicest beach communities in Southern California including Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano, Aliso Viejo, and Laguna Beach.  This time around we actually worked on Bear Brand Park directly for the city of Laguna Niguel.  The city needed to hire a concrete contractor to install 1600 square feet of new concrete sidewalks adjacent to one of their many baseball fields where the kids in the park play.
