Just this past week Bernardo was hired to input a concrete slab of 200 yards for a property manager in Huntington Beach. This was a very large project for us but we managed to complete the job within two days. For this project we were hired to form and pour the concrete slab. With the large crew working to get the job done we were able to set certain crew members to complete a specific part of the concrete slab. At Bernardo we are always organized and are sure to have a plan set so we are well prepared and able to take on any job no matter how large or small it may be. After we completed the project our customer let us know how pleased he was with the work we accomplished for him.

Getting to work on this Concrete Slab
In order to work as planned we started the day bright and early by laying down the rebar all along the flat land where the concrete slab was going to be poured. After all the rebar was positioned correctly we brought in the cement trucks to pour the concrete. We only poured a certain area at a time so that we could work on that one area before it dried. With every area we poured we had to form the cement, which meant we had to level it to an exact 4″ thick throughout the entire area of the slab. For a concrete slab this large we made precise measures so that we wouldn’t make any mistakes. After all the areas were completely poured and leveled we finished off the concrete slab with a broom finish.

With all the concrete construction work B.C.I specializes in, it’s no wonder they got a request to do some stone work along with a concrete slab for some residents in Anaheim. Anaheim is a busy city that is close to Fullerton, Orange, Garden Grove and Buena Park. The project not only included a sand based slab with stone pieces in it, but also a separate concrete slab. Since B.C.I had to do more that just simply input a concrete slab for this concrete construction project we made sure we were organized and aware of what had to be done first in order for this concrete construction job to be complete in a timely matter. The first part of the job started with a complete demo of the existing area. Once that was done we set up the perimeter for both separate slabs.The first slab we started to form was the sand based slab. In order to form this slab we used sand to fill the area. The thickness for both the sand based slab and the concrete slab was 4″ thick. Once the sand was poured we used a screed to smooth or level it out just as it would have been done to the concrete. Now that the sand based slab was established, we were able to place the stone pieces directly on the surface of the sand. After all the stone was placed and leveled with the sand we continued with the concrete slab.
The basics for that concrete slab were very simple. As a contractor, we know exactly what needs to be done to establish a concrete slab. Since the concrete slab was demoed and graded already all that needed to be done was pour the concrete. After the concrete was poured we formed it and made sure it was leveled at 4″ thick. Now that the concrete slab and the sand based slab we poured and formed all that we had to do was create a clean finish for the concrete construction project so that it satisfied our customer. To our assurance our customer was nothing less than happy with the work we completed for them.

Just this week B.C.I was hired as a concrete removal contractor to perform some work on a concrete curb and redo an asphalt flow line in Costa Mesa. Costa Mesa is a popular city near Newport Beach, Santa Ana, Irvine, and Fountain Valley. Part of the process for this job required us to remove the existing asphalt flow line and replace it with a concrete flow line. A concrete flow line lasts a lot longer than an asphalt flow line. We also replaced the existing concrete curb because it had been cracked and damaged over time. The entire concrete removal project only took B.C.I two days to complete. Starting The Concrete Removal Project
The first day of this concrete removal job started out with saw cutting the area that had to be demoed and removed. Next we began to demo the existing asphalt flow line and concrete curb. After the concrete and asphalt was removed it was hauled away to the nearest dump where it can be recycled. Once the area was clear we set up and formed the perimeter for the concrete flow line with 2 by 4′s and steaks. Along with the formation of the flow line we placed the rebar; which supports the concrete flow line.
The Ending to the Concrete Removal Job
Now that the concrete removal part of the job was done we were able to construct the new concrete flow line and curb. Once the concrete arrived we immediately started to pour and form the concrete for the flow line. With a concrete flow line it is very important to get the elevation on both sides correct in order for it to actually be able to flow with whatever it may come in contact with. We also poured the concrete for the curb and we formed it by using certain tools to form the curb within the perimeter. Due to the hot weather we were currently having we were able to complete the job just 2 hours after the concrete was poured and returned three days later to complete the asphalt patch back. Since the concrete dried so fast it made our job a lot easier and we ended by removing all the forms barricades and cleaning up the area.

B.C.I contractors were asked to remove and replace a parking lot in Irvine. Irvine is surrounded by the following cities, Santa Ana, Costa Mesa, Mission Viejo, and Fountain Valley. Concrete Removal
For this concrete removal project we had to first remove the existing slab of concrete. In order to do this we used our bobcats to break the concrete up. Once the concrete breaking was done we then used our bobcats to place the concrete pieces into our dump truck and we hauled it away to the nearest dump. Now that the old concrete parking lot had been removed we were able to start pouring and forming the new concrete parking lot.
The Finishing Touches on the Concrete Removal Job
Before we were actually able to pour the concrete we had to lay out the rebar exactly 24″ on center. The rebar has to be precise because it’s what supports the concrete and holds it together. Once the rebar was set we were able to pour the concrete while forming it to make sure it was even all throughout the parking lot. After the concrete was poured and formed we finished it up with soft-cut joints.At this point all that was left was for us to repaint the parking lot lines. The property owners were definitely pleased with the concrete removal and newly poured parking lot we had accomplished for them.

This past week Bernardo Concrete was asked to do some concrete removal work on a driveway approach and remodel the entire garage foundation for some residents in Westminster, CA. The Concrete Removal Process
When we first arrived we unloaded all of the tools and bobcats needed in order to do the job. Once everything was unloaded we started to mark off and saw-cut the edges of the driveway. The next step in this concrete removal process was to break down the existing concrete with our bobcats. After that was done we hauled away concrete pieces to the nearest dump. In order to form the new driveway approach we had to smooth out the dirt and make sure it was even. We then poured the new concrete for the foundation of the garage and formed the driveway approach.
